Lucius Culpepper - Principal

On Monday, February 9, 2026, the School District of Pickens County Board of Trustees approved the Superintendent’s recommendation to name Mr. Lucius Culpepper as Principal of Pickens High School, effective July 1, 2026.

Mr. Culpepper currently serves as Assistant Principal at D.W. Daniel High School, where he has provided leadership focused on student achievement, school culture, graduation success, and strong communication with students, staff, and families.

Mr. Culpepper is a student-centered leader who understands the importance of building strong relationships while maintaining high expectations,” said Superintendent Dr. Danny Merck. “His experience, professionalism, and commitment to supporting both students and staff make him an excellent choice to lead Pickens High School.

Mr. Culpepper brings extensive experience in secondary education, having served as an assistant principal, graduation coach, teacher, and coach. At D.W. Daniel High School, he has played a key role in supporting graduation rate initiatives, instructional leadership, schoolwide systems, and student support services. His leadership has contributed to sustained academic success and a strong school culture.

He holds an Education Specialist degree in Principalship from Arkansas State University, a Master’s degree in Athletic Administration from Northcentral University, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Clemson University. Mr. Culpepper is a South Carolina–certified educator and administrator and has participated in multiple district and state leadership development programs.

Mr. Culpepper will officially begin his role as principal of Pickens High School in July 2026.
