Good Afternoon Parents/Guardians of Junior Students,
I am reaching out to inform you of upcoming testing that your Junior student will have the opportunity to participate in this school year. All Junior students will take the state required WIN Career Readiness Assessment in March of this school year. Additionally, Juniors are offered the option to take either the ACT or the SAT, one time, free of charge, at Pickens High School later this year.
Attached to this email, you will find the Parent Consent Form to indicate if you would like your student to take either the ACT, the SAT, or opt out of taking either of those assessments. It is strongly recommended that students who are planning on attending a four-year college or university take advantage of this free offering and take either the ACT or SAT.
The ACT and/or SAT are not a requirement for two-year colleges, even if your student is planning to transfer to a four-year institution from the two-year school. If your student is not planning on attending a four-year college or university, you may consider choosing to opt out of taking the ACT or SAT.
This decision is entirely up to you and your student. We, at PHS, want to provide you with the support and information to help you make the best decision that is line with your child's individual goals. To help you make the most informed decision for your student, I have provided a link and password to a video that explains Junior testing and provides more insight into the ACT and SAT, as well as, the WIN assessment. I encourage you to watch this video to assist you in making your decision. Parent Consent Forms are due back to Pickens High School and should be returned to Mrs. Corn, no later than Wednesday, November 18th.
