2018-2019 Registration Bulletin

 

 

School Hours:     8:10 am until 3:10 pm

 

First Day of School!  Monday, August 20 – All students report to CAPS  listed as Homeroom on your schedule.

 

 

Career Center:  The bus will leave PHS for morning Career Center classes at 8:10 am except 1st day of school (see note above).  The bus will leave PHS for afternoon Career Center classes at 11:45 am.  Load the bus in the bus loading area. 

 

Meals:  Student ID cards will be required for meal purchases.  Students are encouraged to deposit money in their lunch accounts.

 

Students who were approved for free or reduced lunch during the last school year may eat free or reduced until September 2830.  Applications for free or reduced lunch must have been submitted and approved by this date, September 28, for students to continue eating free or reduced meals. Parents may access the application by going to the SDPC web site, selecting “departments” and selecting “School Nutrition” or going directly to the SNS web page at www.sdpcnutrition.com   

All families must complete a new application each year.  The meal benefits apply to both breakfast and lunch. 

 

Lunch schedule will be based on the location of a student’s 3A and 3B classes. 

Lunch cost:  $2.25                             Reduced cost:$0.40

 

Breakfast will be served during the morning until 8:05 am.  The only exceptions are for students presenting a late bus pass. 

Breakfast cost:  $1.40                         Reduced cost:  $0.30

 

A representative from our lunchroom staff will be available during registration for you to place money in your account.  Paying ahead is necessary to move quickly through the lunch line. 

 

Student ID:  ID cards will be issued during CAPS on the first day of school.  Students are expected to have their PHS ID cards in their possession at all times while on campus.  Students must have their ID at lunch or anytime a student leaves the class, failure to present the ID card at lunch or when asked will result in disciplinary action.  Temporary IDs cost $1.00.  Replacement cards cost $5.00.

 

Parking:  Only students who have current parking permits will be allowed to park in the student parking lot.  Students are not allowed to double park or park in any unmarked spaces.  Students are not allowed to park in the teacher/staff lot. 

 

Bus Transportation:  For information about bus routes and time for pick-up, call Ms. Franks at the Pickens area bus office.   The bus office number is 397-1197.  Bus routes can be located at http://www.pickens.k12.sc.us/schools/school_locator

 All buses will enter the campus from Gravely Road.

 

Car Riders:  Students who are brought to school are to be dropped off in the car riders’ area.  Afternoon car riders are to meet their rides immediately upon dismissal from school.  Car riders should enter at the main entrance to the campus (the second entrance if coming from Pickens).  Please follow all signs to the appropriate area.  Students should exit and enter vehicles between the red lines in the drop-off area. No student should be picked up or dropped off in the front of the school unless a parent is signing them out for an appointment through the front office.  No student will be allowed to be checked out after 3:00 pm in the front office.  Parents should pick up and drop off their students in the proper car rider area before, during, and after school. 

 

Student Handbook:  The Pickens High School student handbook is on the PHS website: phs.pickens.k12.sc.us    Parents and students are encouraged to read and discuss the information provided. 

 

Forms:  Insurance applications should be mailed to the insurance company - not to Pickens High School.

Yearbook:  Students will receive information regarding purchasing yearbooks at the beginning of the school year.

Schedules:  Each student had an opportunity to request courses based upon the information in the PHS Career Planning Guide.  We were successful in filling over 98% of the requests made.  Teaching assignments were made based upon these requests resulting in a master schedule that is responsive to the needs of the students at Pickens High School.  Classes are presently balanced as to the number of people per class.  Therefore, schedule changes will be made under the following circumstances at no charge:

 

                1.             A student has been scheduled for a class the student has already passed.

                2.             A student needs to be scheduled for a class that is required for graduation.

                3.             A student is academically misplaced in a class.

 

Schedule changes for reasons other than the above will incur a $15 change fee.

 

Career Center Parking:  Students in the 10th, 11th and 12th grades may purchase a pass to park at the Pickens County Career and Technology Center (397-4500).  Registration for parking may be done August 15th.  Students who have completed the Alive at 25 class will be issued a parking pass.  Students should see Mr. Newton in the Law and Public Safety classroom or Mr. Tim Hiott at the Career and Technology Center.  The cost of the pass is $10.00.  Students may ride with a student who is driving to the Career and Technology Center but must pay $5.00 for a rider's pass.  Forms require a parent's signature.  Paperwork must be signed and turned in before the pass is issued.  After school begins, students may see Mr. Newton about parking passes before and after class – not during class. ‚Äč

 

Athletic Pass:  Purchase of the Student Athletic Pass for $60.00 allows student entrance to all regular season home athletic events (except tournaments and playoff games).
